Westboro

Westboro is a neighbourhood of Ottawa often referred to as Westboro Village. Located near the Ottawa River, the neighbourhood is bordered on the east by Island Park Drive, and on the west by Woodroffe Avenue.

A thriving community with an increasingly lively street scene, Westboro attracts nature-loving residents with its unrivalled selection of outdoors stores and its proximity to cycling trails, whitewater rapids in the Ottawa River and skiing and hiking trails in the Gatineau Hills.

Westboro’s population was about 7150 in 2005. The neighbourhood is served by two bus stations on the OC Transpo Transitway: Westboro and Dominion. A recent condominium flux along the West Wellington-Richmond corridor has breathed new life into the neighbourhood.

Nepean

Nepean, extending west and south of Westboro, has been steadily developing since a boom in the 1970s. Built in and around the NCC Greenbelt, the community has two golf courses, a driving range, three marinas, an equestrian park, a toboggan hill (at Bell High School), and two beaches on the Ottawa River. It offers great cross country skiing at Pinhey Forest and at Stoney Swamp. There is a multi-screen cinema by Bayshore and a performing arts theatre at Centrepointe.

As one of the largest neighbourhoods of Ottawa, Nepean has a number of residential communities including Shirleys Bay, Crystal Beach, Rocky Point, Bayshore, Britannia, Britannia Bay, Lincoln Heights, Whitehaven, Glabar Park, Queensway, Kenson Park, Redwood, Graham Park, Qualicum, Leslie Park, Briar Green, Centrepointe, Woodroffe, Bel-Air Park, Bel-Air Heights, Braemar Park, Copeland Park, Navaho, City View, Ryan Farm, Skyline, Fisher Heights, Parkwood Hills, Carleton Heights, Fisher Glen, Borden Farm, Crestview and Meadowlands.

Nepean’s many neighbourhoods are close to the Baseline Transitway stop, which connects to downtown via the Ottawa River Parkway.

Shopping is found along Merivale Road and in Bells Corners. There are a number of malls, including Meadowlands and Merivale along Merivale Road, Lincoln Fields, Carlingwood and Bayshore, the latter located just off the Queensway (417).

Nepean has a large number of schools, including Algonquin College in the middle of the community and Carleton University located just outside Nepean.

Stony Swamp
Stony Swamp Conservation Area is the largest forested area in the Greenbelt and comprises almost 2000 hectares of woodland, wetland and regenerating old field. Within Stony Swamp is the Log Farm, a restored 1850s homestead, and the Lime Kiln, one of the few remaining ruins of pioneer lime factories that were common in Canada in the 1800s. Located near Kanata, Stony Swamp offers 15km of mountain bike tracks and ideal cross country skiing. The area also supports a large variety of wildlife.
Kanata

Situated in the Ottawa Valley, Kanata is located about 22 km west of downtown Ottawa along Highway 417. As the renowned heart of the Ottawa high-tech sector, Kanata is one of the wealthiest parts of Ottawa. The community borders the city's greenbelt to the east and rural countryside to the west

Like most other areas of Ottawa, Kanata was a city in its own right prior to amalgamation in 2001. Among its many attractions, it has five swimming pools, an arena, a wave pool, several running tracks, tennis courts, three golf courses, a driving range and a community performing arts centre. It is connected to Ottawa by recreational and bike pathways.

The main neighbourhoods are:

Kanata North Business Park
Frequently referred as Silicon Valley North during the late 1990s for being home to many high-tech companies, the business park includes the 18-story, luxury Brookstreet Resort Hotel and is surrounded by the urban 18-hole Marshes Golf Club, open to the public.
Terry Fox Business Park
This area is proud to contain the 18,500-seat multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility known as Scotiabank Place (formerly known as the Corel Centre), home to the National Hockey League and Ottawa’s beloved team The Ottawa Senators. Also in this neighbourhood is The Bell Sensplex, with its Olympic sized rink, three NHL sized rinks and an indoor soccer/lacrosse field. Many high-tech companies have recently moved into this area, as well as many newer big-box stores such as Home Depot, Staples, Canadian Tire and Costco.
Kanata Lakes (or Kanata Town Centre)
This area contains a mix of commercial and residential development, including Kanata's major shopping area - Kanata Entertainment Centrum - which contains many big-box stores as well as the AMC 24 movie theatre.
Beaverbrook
The first and oldest neighbourhood in Kanata, Beaverbrook is known for its hedged houses and community facilities.
Marchwood-Lakeside
Often referred as Kanata Lakes, this area has a private 18-hole golf course. Kanata Ave. is the main street.

Stittsville

Located 25 minutes from downtown Ottawa, Stittsville attracts families looking for larger houses and properties in more rural surrounds. The area around Stittsville was first settled in the early 1820s by immigrants from the British Isles and by soldiers from army regiments that disbanded after the war of 1812. It remained a small farming community for over 100 years.

Nowadays, with a population of just over 15,000, Stittsville has six churches, seven schools, two ice arenas, an indoor swimming pool, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a summer youth centre, and the regular medical, dental, shopping and community facilities. A prominent landmark is the Goulbourn Historical Society and Museum.

Stittsville is a 12 minute drive from the Queensway-Carleton hospital and about five minutes from Scotiabank Place, (formerly known as the Corel Centre), a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment facility, home to the Ottawa Senators hockey club.
